Avengers: Doomsday — 7 Things the New D23 Trailer Reveals About Doctor Doom

Posted on August 16, 2026 by FGH Team
Stormbreaker connects, and Doctor Doom barely registers it. Thor’s swing lands like nothing, Doom waves him aside the way you’d shoo an insect, and then comes the line destined for two years’ worth of merch: “Hell answers to me, for I am Doom…” That was Marvel’s closing beat at Disney’s D23 Ultimate Fan Event, where a fresh Avengers: Doomsday trailer screened before making its way online. Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom shoulders the entire piece, and the footage cares considerably more about his motive than about stuffing the maximum number of heroes into a single shot. Not that it goes hungry on that front. The Avengers, the New Avengers, the Wakandans, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four all appear, alongside the returns of Thor, Loki and Steve Rogers. There’s a magic circle beneath the throne We open on Downey’s Doom on a throne, in all likelihood within Castle Doomstadt in Latveria. Pay attention to the floor. Lines carved into the ground glow with green mystical energy, sketching out what looks like a sizable glyph. This is the version of Doom the comics gave us, whose sorcery operates alongside his science instead of standing in for it. Marvel drops the detail inside the opening 10 seconds so that the point can’t slip past anyone. His history with the Fantastic Four predates the mask Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm describes Victor von Doom to the assembled heroes as “the smartest guy in every room,” adding that he was once a completely different person. Further on, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards squares up to Doom and addresses him by his first name. Both beats gesture at the same thing: a shared past, likely a rivalry, and a heavy hint that Victor hails from Earth-828 as well. Under that reading, his abduction of Franklin Richards in the The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scene reads less like villainy and more like a betrayal within the family. The loss that broke him Sue’s lines are doing two jobs at once. She said the Victor known to the Fantastic Four was kind and caring, and that it all turned for him “when everything he loved was taken from him.” The film then cuts to Doom studying a woven hanging depicting a woman and a child. The arithmetic isn’t hard. Sue rounds it off with the most mournful line in the trailer: “I knew he was lost, but I did not realize that he was broken.” A villain out to conquer the multiverse is a plot. A villain who lost his family and concluded the multiverse is in his debt is a movie. “Stolen lives” Next up is the montage, loaded with characters clutching whatever they’d die protecting. Scott Lang with Cassie. Thor with Love, his adopted daughter. Johnny Storm with his nephew. Steve Rogers with his infant son. Sir Ian McKellan’s Magneto standing with Sir Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier. Doom narrates across the whole sequence, insisting each of them has been leading “stolen lives” and that the moment has come to hand them back. It’s fuel for the persistent theory that Avengers: Endgame genuinely wounded the multiverse — damage Doom might now be angling to repair. He’s not wrong is a hell of a thing to think about the guy in the metal mask. A city that already looks defeated One image slices through the rest: a metropolis reduced to apocalyptic wasteland. It looks a great deal like the wrecked world seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the domain of that movie’s darker Strange, a reality that caved in after a major multiversal incursion. Should that interpretation hold, Doom’s showdown with Marvel’s heroes may play out atop the remains of a world that has already survived this once. Fresh glimpses of faces the first trailer passed over Set against the initial Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the D23 cut serves up new shots of Magneto, Gambit, Shang-Chi, Cyclops, Ant-Man, Human Torch and others from the confirmed cast. That’s an enormous roster to serve inside one movie, and the trailer’s solution is to grant everyone a second instead of a scene. The Sentinels rise again Having swatted Thor aside, Doom directs his magic at a field of downed Sentinels — the mutant-hunting robots — and hauls them upright like an army of the dead. That’s a strong clue as to where this battle unfolds. Heaps of destroyed Sentinels don’t pile up in random places. They pile up in the wreckage of the Xavier Mansion, and Doom is standing there, bending the machines built to hunt mutants to his own will.
