Final Fantasy XVI is one of the most well-received video games to be released this year from both critics and fans alike.
Final Fantasy XVI tells the tale of Clive Rosfield of royal blood who has fallen far from grace and is not considered to be a peasant amongst peasants. However, destiny has other plans and with the help of his close friends, he now not only has a path to redemption but can finally stop the war that has run rampant across the continent of Valisthea, he may also be able to stop the blight that plagues the lands.
Post-release, Final Fantasy XVI has benefited from updates, but they’ve mostly been to fix bugs and make small quality-of-life improvements. However, patch 1.10 which is available now adds alternative outfits for the main characters, a new skin for Clive’s sword and it even improves gameplay. For example, Clive’s Eikonic abilities will charge faster after a successful parry and aerial combos will be easier to perform on smaller enemies.
What’s more, FFXVI producer Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that Square Enix is currently working on two pieces of paid DLC for the game. By the sounds of it, the DLC will be closer to being larger expansions with Yoshida wanting players “to see more of Valisthea’s story, and spend more time with her inhabitants.” Oh, and a PC port is officially on the way and it aims to be released later this year. Happy days!
In my review of Final Fantasy XVI for GAMINGbible, I said that the fantasy RPG is: “an epic adventure. It has a fantastical story, over-the-top character performances, a sublime soundtrack, epic boss battles and it looks gorgeous to boot. Seriously, what’s there not to love about this game? It doesn’t matter if you’re a veteran of the series or a newcomer like me, Final Fantasy XVI is one of 2023’s most brilliantly extravagant adventures and a sure-fire contender for Game of the Year.
Final Fantasy XVI is out now for PlayStation 5 and later this year for PC.
