Football Manager 27 is giving matchdays a refresh with more lively crowds, extra stadium details and changing weather conditions that should make each game feel a little more like the real thing. Fans will have a wider range of appearances and reactions, helping the mood in the stands follow the action, whether their team grabs a late equalizer or watches a lead slip away.
Fans will also dress for the season and local climate, so the crowd at a cold winter game in Europe will look different from one enjoying a warm afternoon in Japan. Some will wear the same club shirts as the players, while bigger games, including cup finals and heated derbies, will see flags bring more color to the stands with seasonal changes showing up around the pitch as well.
Stadiums are getting more variety through new designs based on grounds built between 1990 and 2010, alongside updated textures, shading and colors to give each venue more character. A new time-of-day system will also move the sun as matches unfold, letting shadows shift across the pitch, players and stands instead of keeping the lighting fixed from kick-off to the final whistle.
The playing surface will feature new pitch variations and 3D grass, while the weather should leave a more visible mark on match conditions. Rain will make the turf look wet, and snow can leave a fresh layer on the ground, giving players tougher conditions to deal with.
Before kick-off, cutscenes will draw from several camera angles for each shot, giving familiar sequences more variety from one fixture to the next. A five-shot scene with three angles available per shot can play out in more than 200 combinations while Premier League and UEFA competitions will have their own mixes of shots for the build-up and trophy celebrations.
Players will look more athletic with greater muscle definition and more natural hair movement, particularly in women’s soccer. More details are available in the feature blog, while a future Deep Dive will cover player movement and match engine updates that aim to make it more satisfying to see a team’s tactics come together.
