Yacht Club Games, the makers of the retro sensation Shovel Knight, have released a new trailer for their next game, Mina the Hollower. Alas, there’s still no release date for this game, but you can wishlist the game on Steam.
Following on from the side-scrolling Shovel Knight and its 8-bit aesthetic, Mina the Hollower is another retro-styled game, this time being more of a Zelda-like that leans on the Game Boy Color for inspiration. That meas there’s small chunky sprites, thick pixels and strong colours.
Mina is a mouse, a whip-wielding inventor that uses this signature weapon for attacking enemies – the slow attack rate means you need good timing – and to whip walls and items in the world to destroy and manipulate them.
Her other ability is to burrow under the ground, escaping tricky jams in combat and generally being safe from harm during these times. Defeating enemies will let you collect bones with which to “bone up” on research and boost Mina’s abilities.
