The last gen PS4 and Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of Hogwarts Legacy have been delayed to come out a few months behind the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC release, which is still on target for February 2023.
“The team is looking forward to bringing you the game and we want to deliver the best possible game experience across all platforms,” the team wrote in the announcement on Twitter.
The new staggered release schedule is as follow:
- PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S & PC – 10th February 2023 with 72 hour early access from 7th Febraury
- PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – 4th April 2023
- Nintendo Switch – 25th July 2023
These dates apply to the various different editions and versions that will be available across the platforms. So a PS4 Collector’s Edition will come out on 4th April, while the PS5 Collector’s Edition will be on 7th February.
The main sticky point is the Digital Deluxe Edition, which bundles together both PS5 & PS4, and Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S versions together. This was the avenue that buyers would have been able to take to get the last generation versions and then jump across to the current generation with a single purchase. In the FAQ, WB simply explain that each level of this bundle will be delivered to the above release dates.
If that is not acceptable to you and you have a pre-order, we would advise getting in touch with the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store in order to cancel.
Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed several times over the last few years. Having been rumoured for years leading up to its 2020 reveal, Hogwarts Legacy was originally expected to release in 2021, but just a couple of weeks into 2021, it was delayed. Earlier this year, they pencilled in a ‘Holiday 2022’ launch, but we know how that went…
Thankfully for those who still have any appetite for the Harry Potter franchise – JK Rowling being an awful person has turned a lot of people away from the Wizarding World, and I don’t blame them not wanting to give her more money – the February 2023 release date is still holding strong for the current gen platforms, with Avalanche and WB Games delaying the tricky optimisation that last gen and Switch clearly now need.
