‘Kentucky Route Zero’ and ‘Twelve Minutes’ Hit Netflix Games Today, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge’ and More Teased for 2023

Posted on December 14, 2022 by FGH Team

I don’t think anyone could argue that 2022 wasn’t a huge year for Netflix and their gaming initiative. It was in November of last year that Netflix Games officially kicked off its service, bringing a selection of mobile gaming titles to iOS and Android devices completely devoid of any advertisements or in-app purchases so long as players had a current Netflix subscription. In the weeks and months that followed more and more games were added to the Netflix Games library and it seemed the service just continued to gain momentum.

Eventually some pretty noteworthy and critically-acclaimed titles began appearing on the service, with Netflix announcing a bunch of new titles during their Geeked Week event back in June. Suddenly Netflix Games went from something of a nice bonus for anyone already subscribed for the service’s streaming content to an actual reason in itself to consider subscribing to Netflix if you weren’t already. I mean the streaming video content is really just a nice bonus to all these excellent mobile games, eh?

Today Netflix has dropped two majorly noteworthy games on their service from publisher Annapurna Interactive. Kentucky Route Zero is the critically-acclaimed adventure game from developer Cardboard Computer that released episodically on PC over the course of nearly a decade before making its way to consoles alongside its final episode in 2020.

Twelve Minutes is a gripping timeloop-style adventure game where you play through the same 12 minute chunk that precedes your wife’s murder in order to find clues and use knowledge from previous playthroughs to figure out why your wife is being murdered and hopefully prevent it from happening.

So with 2022 about to come to a close, Netflix has put together a little video feature that recaps the year they’ve had in gaming, and teases a few tasty treats that will be in store in 2023. Check it out.

I kind of figured Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge would find its way to mobile given everyone involved in making it, but I didn’t see it being part of Netflix. It’s one of my favorite games of this year so it will be a real treat to have it on mobile. Queen’s Gambit: Chess and Vikings: Valhalla are two upcoming games based on hit Netflix programs, and Valiant Hearts: Coming Home is the long-awaited sequel to the fan-favorite original.

Between Netflix Games, Apple Arcade, and a number of high-quality premium traditional releases on the App Store this year, 2022 has been filled with tons of mobile gaming goodness and this coming year looks to up the ante in a big way.
