The PS Plus Essential Games for September 2023 have been announced with a fresh trio of bundled in games that are headlined by the 2022 reboot of Saints Row.
There’s a nasty sting in this months tail, though, as Sony has also announced PS Plus price increases that will come into effect on 6th September, raising prices 20% in the UK, 26% in Europe and a staggering 33% in the US.
What are the PS Plus September 2023 games?
Only one of the PS Plus monthly games was leaked ahead of time for September 2023, with the ever-reliable billbil-kun leaking one third of the line-up in the last few days. That meant Sony got to keep a couple of surprises, so what’s the full set of games included for all PS Plus subscribers?
- Saints Row (PS5 | PS4)
- Black Desert – Traveler Edition (PS4)
- Generation Zero (PS4)
We scored the game 7/10 in our review when the title was released in August 2022. “After so many facelifts, there were fears Saints Row would fail to recapture the unconventional beauty of the earlier games, but this reboot proves how adept Volition is when it comes to reinventing their flagship franchise,” said Jim. “This latest outing is my favourite game in the series to date, so while basic combat and dips in visual quality are disappointing, they did little to keep me away from Santo Ileso. You’ll struggle to find anything ground-breaking though this sandbox is bursting with entertaining things to do, ideal for sharing with a partner in crime.”
Saints Row was a critical disappointment, but speaking alongside the latest quarterly financial report, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said that “Financially, Saints Row has performed in line with management expectations in the quarter.” Since release, studio Volition (now under Gearbox management structure) have continued to plug away at improving the game and adding content through DLC – the third bundle arrived this month. If it wasn’t a must-buy last August, it might now be worth checking out on PS Plus?
Alongside Saints Row is the Traveler Edition of the action MMORPG Black Desert with large-scale PvP siege warfare awaiting those who step into the game with this bundle that includes the base game and several add-ons (available to existing owners with a standalone Traveler Item Pack).
Alternatively, you might reckon you’d survive a ‘kids save the world’ 80s film or TV series, but would you survive the robot-infested island of Generation Zero? Make sure to bring friends, loot the world as much as possible, and try to use traps and strategic planning to overcome the deadly robots that have taken over.
Can I still get the August 2023 PlayStation Plus games?
Of course you can! The PlayStation Plus games for August 2023 are available right up until 6th September, and include the following trio:
- PGA Tour 2K23 (PS5 | PS4)
- Dreams (PS4)
- Death’s Door (PS5 | PS4)
What’s the deal with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium?
The PlayStation Plus relaunch took place back in the middle of 2022, transforming the PS Plus we once knew into a three tiered subscription service that bundles in and expands what was once PlayStation Now. The classic PS Plus is now called PS Plus Essential, giving access to online multiplayer gaming, cloud save backups, exclusive offers and at least 2 free monthly games. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.
