Following months of rumours, a new release of Red Dead Redemption is on the way, but perhaps it’s not exactly what he had hoped.

For a while now it’s been reported that a remake or remaster of Rockstar Games Red Dead Redemption of 2010 is coming to modern consoles and that’s true, which is great. However, it’s not a remake or even a remaster, it’s merely a straight-up port.

On August 17, the beloved Western experience Red Dead Redemption and its horror companion Undead Nightmare arrive together for the first time on the Nintendo Switch and modern PlayStation systems.

The port of Red Dead Redemption which will come bundled with the ‘Undead Nightmare’ expansion will be coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The latter of which is great, because RDR will be playable on the go. It will also be backwards compatible with PS5.

You may have noticed that there’s no new Xbox release, and that’s simply because the game already exists on the green brand via backwards compatibility on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Furthermore, the port will be handled by Double Eleven Studios. It’s disappointing that this won’t at least be a proper remaster, but it will at least benefit from crisp HD visuals on PlayStation.

“One of the most critically acclaimed games of all time with over 170 Game of the Year Awards, Red Dead Redemption tells the story of former outlaw John Marston as he journeys across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico to track down the last remaining members of the notorious Van der Linde Gang in a bid to save his family,” reads the press release from Rockstar Games.

“Relive, or experience for the first time, the events immediately following the epic tale of honour and loyalty in the 2018 blockbuster Red Dead Redemption 2 as Marston hunts down his former friends and outlaws Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and his former gang leader, Dutch van der Linde as the era of the cowboy comes to its end.”

Red Dead Redemption will be released digitally next week on August 17 and then physically on 13 October 2023. Its RRP which is only stated in US dollars is $49.99 at launch.
