Marking the 35th anniversary of Final Fantasy, Square Enix has announced that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in spring 2023. The games will also be playable on PS5 via backward compatibility.
Each game, from Final Fantasy I to Final Fantasy VI will be sold individually or in a collection bundle, with a limited physical edition also set to be available. There’s a small limited run of the six game bundle, as well as the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster 35th Anniversary Edition, which will include:
- FINAL FANTASY I-VI COLLECTION – physical collection of all games for either PS4 or Nintendo Switch-
- Anniversary Edition GOODS BOX.
- A bonus lenticular sleeve for the game package.
- 2-disc vinyl record set featuring newly arranged game music with exclusive cover artwork by Kazuko Shibuya
- A specially compiled artbook showcasing beautiful character pixel art.
- Eight stylized pixel art character figures in window packaging.
The console release has been long-awaited by fans of the franchise. Originally released for PC and mobile through the second half of 2021 and early 2022, these were solid enhancements that made a number of quality of life improvements to the classic RPGs – though it’s also fair to say that not everything was perfected, such as an odd font choice.
Of course, while PC and mobile have a vast reach, there’s something about being able to play these game on a PlayStation or with the more dedicated handheld gaming of NIntendo Switch.
We look forward to getting a proper release date for these games soon.
