While some stores do Christmas sales, it’s clear that Epic have put a portion of their huge Fortnite takings into keeping gamers happy in the Epic Games Store all year round. There’s always something free to pick up, presumably in the hope that once you’ve logged in to claim your free prize you’ll buy something else (I think I’ve only actually bought two games through it since it launched, but hey! I’m no retail specialist!). Today’s free game is the fantastically horsey brawler Them’s Fightin’ Herds, and you can set to claiming it right now.
Our very own US writer Miguel gave it a coveted 8/10 when he reviewed in 2020, and his glowing report went something like this,
“With fluid gameplay, gorgeous visuals, and an incredibly inventive story mode, there’s a lot to love in this unique fighting game. The limited roster may prove to be the biggest challenge this game faces in maintaining a strong community, but with so many positive changes since it’s 2018 Early Access launch and the spotlight of an Evo Online tournament, there’s nowhere to go but up for Them’s Fightin’ Herds.”
That question mark over the small roster has been solved since the game’s launch with a comprehensive range of new characters becoming available via DLC, with the latest and greatest addition being Texas the Bull, a big-body grappler who smashes records on size and power. He’s the first male addition to the roster, and he really packs a punch (or should it be kick? Or hoof?!). His arrival follows up on the last DLC character Shanty, a piratical goat whose diminutive size shouldn’t lull you into a false sense of security.
All of the additional characters come as part of the Season 1 Pass, which I imagine might be a whole lot more tempting if you’re picking up the game for free.
